RIIDEye Operation

Press and hold the BACK/POWER button for at least 1 second.

This may take 1 to 3 minutes. When the start-up sequence is complete, the screen will display “AutoCal complete!”

The headphone jack is located on the left side of the instrument.

Hooks for the shoulder strap are located on the front and back of the instrument.

The instrument should be located near the secondary inspection area, in similar surroundings, but not directly adjacent to the conveyance, object, or person.

Use the left and right buttons on the keypad to highlight Background on the screen and press the ENTER button.

This will take 60 seconds. You also have the option to add or subtract 30 seconds from the measurement time.

The default Dial screen displays count rate and dose rate on the left. The dial displays the intensity of the radiation being measured.

The Finder screen displays count rate and dose rate in the upper right corner. It also plots time and cps [counts per second] on a graph.

The screen can be changed by selecting either “Dial” or “Finder” and pressing ENTER.

Keep the instrument close to the entity being assessed, but not touching.

Place a marker (tape, pencil, etc.) on points exhibiting elevated radiation. There may be more than one point of interest.

The screen will prompt the operator to move the instrument back or move it closer to the source of radiation as needed.

The screen displays any isotopes found along with a statistical confidence number.

Follow your standard operating procedure to record results. Spectra are automatically saved to the CF card with the event number in the filename.
