When the instrument is powered on, it will stabilize using its embedded potassium-40 material and prompt the user to collect a new background if needed. Afterward, the instrument enters Search mode.
In Search mode, two screens are available: Dial and Finder. The Dial screen displays the intensity of the radiation being measured. In the Finder screen, the user can locate RN material using the dose rate, moving graph of radiation levels, and audible indicator.
In Identify mode, the screen will flash “MOVE CLOSER” if the count rate becomes too low, or “MOVE BACK” if the count rate is too high. When identification is complete, the RIIDEye presents an analysis report with the isotope, class (category), and confidence.
Spectra are automatically saved onto a compact flash (CF) card. The identification results can be uploaded to a computer for further analysis using the provided USB CF card reader.
The instrument comes with two battery packs. NiMH (rechargeable) or alkaline batteries may be used. The correct battery type must be selected in the instrument settings. It is recommended that ONLY NiMH batteries be used.
New units come without a password, which must be entered by an administrator or expert user. With no password, the unit automatically boots up in Administrator mode.
